Africa must define its own green transition path – Prof Fatima Denton

Africa must define its own path in the global green transition, taking into account the continent’s development needs rather than simply following narratives shaped elsewhere, Professor Fatima Denton, Director of the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA), has said.

Prof Denton called for greater recognition of African expertise and priorities in shaping the continent’s development and energy pathways.

Drawing lessons from China’s experience in building its manufacturing base, Prof Denton said African countries needed to think carefully about how to organise themselves to turn their natural resources and other opportunities into sustainable development.
