Kwesi Pratt says reparations must deliver equal rights, African self-reliance

Mr Pratt questioned how Africa could reproduce Western development experiences when those economies were built, in his account, partly through centuries of slavery, resource extraction and unpaid African labour.

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has called for a fundamental transformation of the global political and economic order, arguing that Africa’s reparations struggle must go beyond financial compensation to secure equal rights, control over the continent’s resources and greater collective self-reliance.

He urged African leaders to ensure that their international partnerships aligned with the continent’s wider objectives of sovereignty and self-determination.
