Resettlement Planning: TRECK Director warns against impoverishing people in the name of development

Development projects must not impoverish the very people they are intended to benefit, says Professor Helen Michelle Korkor Essandoh, Director of the Regional Transport Research and Education Centre (TRECK) at KNUST. She warns that poor land acquisition and resettlement planning can leave affected communities without homes, farmlands, businesses and essential sources of livelihood. Speaking during a professional training programme organised by TRECK in partnership with GIMPA, with support from the World Bank, Professor Essandoh called attention to the need for fair compensation, community engagement and effective resettlement planning. #NewsDesk
