Mahama explains Ghana’s rejection of US health compact over medical records, FDA concerns

President John Dramani Mahama has explained Ghana’s decision to reject a proposed health compact from the United States, saying some of the conditions attached to the agreement were unacceptable.
Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, he said the Ministry of Health identified several provisions in the agreement that raised concerns over Ghana’s health data, financing obligations and regulatory authority.
The President has said the withdrawal created a significant funding gap for Ghana’s health sector and exposed the risks of excessive dependence on external health financing.
