Mahama Ayariga: Contraflow system to stay until better mobility solutions emerge

The government has announced plans to sustain the contraflow traffic system as part of efforts to improve mass movement and ease congestion in Ghana’s major cities.
Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga said President John Dramani Mahama had approved the trial of the system, which has enabled thousands of commuters to travel more quickly during peak periods using the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) “Ayalolo” buses.
The contraflow system allows designated traffic lanes to be used to facilitate the movement of public transport vehicles during peak periods, with the Ayalolo buses being deployed under the current trial.
