She said officials from the sector have already briefed her on the plastic waste policy and added that a wider ban on single-use plastics was also planned.

She said Ghana had enough plant-based raw materials to support the development of an alternative industry instead of relying mainly on bans, restrictions and enforcement to deal with the plastic waste menace.

She said the ban and the search for alternatives formed part of a wider approach to plastic and waste management, which required “an all-of-government, all-of-society” effort.
