Govt to launch Diaspora Consular Fund for Ghanaians in distress — Foreign Minister

Assurance The Foreign Affairs Minister said his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola, had given an assurance that authorities in South Africa had intensified a crackdown on perpetrators of xenophobic attacks, with more than 300 arrests made so far.
He said it was unfortunate the attacks occurred, given Ghana’s historic sacrifices for South Africa’s liberation, including shedding blood at the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, hosting South African students, offering diplomatic passports and a haven to freedom fighters, and spending millions of dollars to support the anti-apartheid struggle.
Mr Ablakwa said the government would continue to engage the South African government to demand protection for all Africans and respect for human rights, in line with Pan-African ideals.
